Robert Doisneau

My next artist is Robert Doisneau, he was known for his street photography where he captured spontaneous moments and suspended them in time. However, these images years later where proven to be disingenuous, and what was believed to be an impromptu photograph was actually a farce. Making us question the artists themselves and the integrity of their work.

Contact Sheet.
Selected Photos.

I used the familiar home settings created in IKEA's store to be the backdrop for my photos. I aimed to create these realistic looking images of mundane activities, e.g. reading, cooking ect. However in each photo there's a trail of clues that signify these scenes are a farce. These clues include tag prices labels and so on left on the furniture.

I decided to isolate the clues from the image as these identifiers leave the viewers questioning what the intentions of the images are.

Development.

As development I created these prints using an enlarger and my images, which I inverted  into negatives. To further establish this sense of uncertainty into the reliability of the photographs, I added paper slides to cover the clues left behind.

Further Development.

I then decided to make my own IKEA labels using Adobe Lightroom, but instead of applying the original descriptions of the furniture, I included new descriptions of genuine faults with the products as well as humorous notes about the IKEA brand. This was done to emphasise the farce in these photographs once further.
