Red, Green, Blue

I looked at a series of photographers who've explored colour in their work, using a range of different techniques and approaches. I used this as a starting point in the RGB project and developed my ideas through inspiration and experimentation.

When researching photographers I came across Harry Gruyaert work and was fascinated by his use and exploitation of colour. Taking mundane scenes from Tv and tampering with its appearance. I particularly like that he works with screens and looks more at the technical side of photography using alternative processes.

My Work.

Inspired by the work of Harry Gruyaert, I explored how every image can be broken down into three separate hues of light. That when mixed together create coloured images that can be exploited to completely change the emotion portrayed by a that photo. Like presented in Harry's work these images can be displayed on screens like like TV's, computer monitors and phones.

With each image holding a various amount of pigmentation, of the colours Red, Blue and Green, I decided to isolate each one to emphasise the importance of that colour and how it contributes to the outcome of the image. By under or overindulging the images in these colours it can effect the final product. Since these colour are the foundation for every photo I thought it could be an interesting project to explore.

I decided to take these isolated images and, inspired by Harry's work with screens, print them on to clear acetate. I did this as a way of physically portraying the divide between the colours and how bringing them together can create that image again.

Development.

To develop my work I decided to use the isolated image prints I made and exploit the order and positions of each image in order to create a new image. By doing this I got to think creatively about how to use colour in a way I wouldn't have before.
